But why? Answer: here's a roof section
The pre-existing roof was retrofitted to vent above the deck insulation through flat 2x4 "channels" from the soffit to the ridge.
the entry addtion was "over-framed" atop the retrofitted roof deck.
Next, the ell addition was framed atop of the insulated main roof deck.
And, the soffit vent channel intakes are now within the heated space of the entry ceilings.
And, heated air was leaking from above the ceilings of the ell through the vent to the ridge.
the fix: seal the vent channels
cut holes in the entry ceilings of each unit, and seal the vent channels.
